Disney?s World Includes Area Artist - Toledo Blade

now owns Lucasfilm Ltd. and announced comprehensive plans to release a new Star Wars trilogy and three standalone films in the coming years, beginning Dec. 18, 2015, with Episode VII, could only be good news for Rood, right? They are announcing new movies [and] Im all right with that, he said. Thats job security, he said. Like most of us, the news of the Disney purchase surprised Rood. But I cant think of a better community to take over the reins of the Star Wars franchise and Lucasfilm than Disney. They already had such a long relationship it just seems like a perfect marriage. Oddly enough, I spoke with Rood earlier this week just after he and his family wife Michelle, daughter Amelia, 9, and son Max, 5 returned from a weekend at Disney World, where he spent a few hours every day creating live art, signing prints, and interacting with fans of his and the movies. And when he wasnt working?

Meet Darth Vader, Greedo, Boba Fett and more at Disney Star Wars breakfast However, for some of those families, the memories are even more dear because they've got a child struggling with a life-threatening illness. Thankfully, they get to enjoy carefree trips courtesy of a place that brings its own special kind of magic to the Orlando area: Give Kids the World Village. Click the video accompanying this article for an overview tour of Give Kids the World Village . The resort, which is located in Kissimmee, not too far from Walt Disney World and the other attractions, is a special place that acts as home base for sick children and their families. They stay in cozy villas and head off to the theme parks for days of fun that offset some of the pain they go through on a regular basis from treatments and hospital stays. The resort itself is a destination, too, with rides, characters, movies, swimming, horse and carriage rides, and even Halloween and Christmas celebrations every week of the year. All of the activities are fully handicap accessible. The village is funded by donations from corporate sponsors and individuals, and its financial records show that the vast majority of the money collected goes right to providing vacations for the youngsters. Visit www.gktw.org for more information or to make a donation. Give Kids the World Village hosts various fund-raisers throughout the year. If You're Visiting Universal Studios Orlando, Do Not Forget To Do This

Planning a fun day for everyone in the family can be tricky. Some get a rush from electrifying rides, while others imagine being on the set of an action film. Universal Studios offers limitless enjoyment for thrill-seekers and disney resorts film enthusiasts of all ages.

Prepare yourself for a day at Universal Studios - literally. Those who show up not really prepared can miss out on a great deal of the enjoyable, so follow these tips to maximize your day while you visit Universal Studios.

Keep it cool & fresh .. temperature-wise

You can expect it to be very hot at Universal Studios. Make certain that you, and particularly your kids, are dressed in cool, breathable cotton clothes. Think about bringing extra clothing that you can change into after you get soaked on the water trips, or if you simply have to freshen up. While the park is extremely hot throughout the day it does cool down in the evening, so you may wish to bring a sweater to wear in the evening.

Take Steps for comfort with the right clothing

As you tour Universal Studios, you'll be walking-- a lot. Whatever you do, make certain that you're using comfortable shoes that have actually been broken in. Do not wear new shoes, because Universal Studios is no place to break out in blisters. If damp shoes bother you, make an additional pair to become. You'll get extremely wet on a few of the attractions.

Accessorize and bring all you may require.

Make a list of small accessories that you might require as you explore Universal Studios. It can be an extremely noisy place, and some of the attractions are deafening, so bring along some earplugs for everybody in the family. Sun block is an absolute must, as are hats to shield you from the sun. Leave your purse in your home or locked in the trunk, and utilize a fanny pack or backpack instead. There are likewise lockers offered through visitor services if you need a secure, dry area to store your valuables while you have a blast in the park.

Get to the parks early or very late

Visit Universal Studios early in the day. The park will remain open a number of hours after the tour has closed for the day, so you'll still have time for shopping. Designate a conference place with everyone in your celebration, simply in case you get separated. See to it that everybody in your group has a map, and that they understand ways to read it!

Make sure you plan for the Infants

Littles and young children will not enjoy at Universal Studios, and they'll make it hard for you to have a good time. It's better for both of you if you leave infants and young children with a caretaker. If you do make young youngsters along (and even if you do not) think about purchasing VIP passes. The passes allow you to transfer to the front of the lines for the tourist attractions, conserving time and keeping you from getting weary waiting in lines.

Eat smart! Parks can be extremely expensive

Food inside Universal Studios is very costly. To conserve cash, buy food just outside the park gates in City Walk. Save your souvenir and gift shopping until completion of the day, so you do not need to lug packages around with you. Universal Studios provides a package delivery service that allows you to get your purchases near the exit. If you discover an unique souvenir that you just need to buy, take advantage of this service and pick them up at the end of the day.

There are no policies to having a good time, but there are methods to ensure you get the most fun from your day. Plan ahead prior to you explore Universal Studios, and your finest souvenirs will be your memories of all the fun you had.

8 Highlights Of A Successfully Magical Walt Disney World Honeymoon - Portland Disney Travel | Examiner.com

Disney's Frozen Secrets: Where to Meet Anna and Elsa This Summer - New York Disney Travel | Examiner.com

Independence Day Fireworks at Walt Disney World Resort But we thought the sacrifice was well worth the savings in the cost of the room -- after all, we couldn't afford to stay at the Boardwalk otherwise! You can also choose one of the less-expensive Disney resorts - some of the value resorts have room rates around $125 a night, depending on when you visit. No matter what your budget allows, staying at an on-property, Disney owned and operated resort is well worth the expense. In my opinion, it is the only way to go when visiting Walt Disney World. Off Property Wind Down Off Property Wind Down To extend the relaxation of our honeymoon, and save us a few dollars, we spent the last two nights of our honeymoon off property, at a less expensive hotel. This allowed us to sleep in the day after our last night in the parks (when we wanted to max out our final hours on Disney property), do a bit of laundry, repack at a luxuriously slow pace, and just unwind before heading back to the real world. We even spent a few hours meandering through Downtown Disney, and picking up a few last-minute souvenirs, before relaxing again at our hotel pool. You know how people always say they need a vacation after their vacation? This extra day, spent at a less expensive but still lovely hotel, allowed us to transition from vacation mode to real-world mode much more smoothly. It took away that need for a post-vacatation vacation we so often feel after a trip. Disney Photo Pass/Memory Maker Disney Photo Pass/Memory Maker Previously called PhotoPass Plus, the new Memory Maker service from Disney was the perfect add-on to our honeymoon.

Once the first guests reach the queue, the wait time quickly escalates to two hours or more, just a few minutes after the park opens. Avoid this with a FastPass+ for Anna and Elsa. By reserving a time to see the princesses well before your trip even begins, you'll be able to meet them with just a 10 or 15 minute wait -- and without the 4 AM wake-up call to camp out in front of the Magic Kingdom. Of course, even that FastPass+ can be hard to obtain. Your best bet is to book your stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel more than 60 days in advance of your stay. Resort guests can book their FastPass+ selections 60 days in advance. That's an entire month's advantage over off-site guests, who must wait for universal studios vacation packages the 30-day mark before they can book FastPass+ selections. By that time, Anna and Elsa spots are typically already snatched up. For FastPass+ expertise, consider using a travel advisor who specializes in Disney vacations.

How to use FastPass+ for a day at Disney World with friends | Theme Parks - WESH Home

More FastPass+ is a great service if you havent tried it. Think of it just like normal FastPass, but with a bunch of extra features. Instead of hopping from attraction to attraction to pick up your FastPasses, and then returning later, you can plan your entire day with multiple FastPass+ picks before you even get to the parks. MORE: E verything you need to know about My Magic+ Now that may seem like a great idea for planning a family trip, but what about trying to coordinate a day with friends at the parks, where each person has his or her own My Disney Experience login? I recently gave that a try, and it works great and is super simple. I planned out an afternoon for a friend and me at Disneys Animal Kingdom about 30 minutes before heading out the door. The online system gave me three itinerary choices, of which I chose one for the both of us that included Primeval Whirl, Expedition Everest and Kilimanjara Safaris. There were several timing choices that spread out the FastPass+ attractions throughout the day, I chose the one that matched my anticipated arrival time at the park best. Heres what to do if you want to plan a Disney day with friends: (By the way, you can also do these steps through the My Disney Experience app. The instructions below are for getting setup on your computer.) Step 1: Connect Your Friends With Your My Disney Experience Login Log in to your My Disney Experience account on the Walt Disney World site . Under the My Disney Experience menu in the top right, select My Family and Friends under the My Account header. Then click Add a Guest.

parade Guests working together can get enough barrels spinning to generate the big payoff an image of Snow White. They then board a roller coaster train designed to look like a string of mine cars. But unlike a typical coaster, each of the cars swings back and forth as the train zips through curves on the track. At one point there is a sudden, 40 foot drop. The system, which Disney developed in conjunction with Vekoma Rides Manufacturing, a Dutch coaster company, is smooth and quiet. The designers have engineered out the traditional clicketyclack and vibration that characterizes coasters. This lets the riders to experience the music from the film classic and scenes filled with Snow White, the seven dwarfs and forest critters on the ride. After zipping at speeds of about 30 miles per hour through the hillside, the train slows and enters the cavern where the dwarfs are mining jewels. There, riders see a new generation of audio-animatronic figures. The faces contain an internal projection system that enables Disney to better replicate the faces and expressions that viewers are familiar with from the Snow White film. Vaughn said the projection technology allowed the designers to mate the distinct personality of each dwarf with his facial expressions.

Disney's Frozen Secrets: Where To Meet Anna And Elsa This Summer - New York Disney Travel | Examiner.com

Disney's Animal Kingdom gets set for new Harambe Nights - Orlando Sentinel

At Disneyland there is no FastPass+ for Anna and Elsa -- just one line for everyone to wait in. Like Walt Disney World, however, Disneyland offers a special resort benefit called Magic Mornings. And just like Extra Magic Hours, Magic Mornings allows people to get into line for Anna and Elsa before park opening, inflating wait times. The best strategy for meeting the Frozen ladies in Anaheim is to arrive about a half an hour before park opening on a non-Magic Mornings day. Cast Members will escort guests to the queue for Anna and Elsa. Anna and Elsa are joining a special pre-parade at Disneyland this summer, which will give guests an additional opportunity to wave hello without the wait (although it means forgoing the hug and autograph). And are Anna and Elsa coming to Disney Cruise Line? Fox News reports that they will be joining cruise guests on the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, and Disney Fantasy this summer. Anna was a guest on fall 2013 sailings, but that was before the film really hit its peak of popularity.

Independence Day Fireworks at Walt Disney World Resort The swinging bucket just creates a very different dynamic. Your center of gravity's a little different compared to a traditional coaster, where you're following rails. I love riding it. I too found myself greatly enjoying the experience of riding the Mine Train, doing so four times in a row during the press event. My only quibble? I wish it lasted just a little longer, as it feels like it could use one more "thrill" moment at the end, perhaps. Overall though, it's a very fun ride that has a lot of clever aspects to it and really stands out for how it incorporates different elements in such a successful way. The ride begins as a fast-paced, outdoor coaster, before slowing down for a middle section inside the mines, where you see the Dwarfs at work (well, mostly Sleepy is taking a nap break, as you might expect), singing "Heigh-Ho", naturally - in a sequence which indeed functions as a sort of mini-dark ride and includes some really cool visuals, including the shadows of the dwarfs hiking uphill, just like in the film. From there, as you leave the mines, you again speed up as you race along outdoors, before the ride concludes with a glimpse of another memorable moment from the Snow White film occurring alongside your car using audio-animatronic figures of the Snow White characters.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train "We re-create that world through special effects." Food here. will be a major component of the event from beginning to end, even during the "Concert in the Wild," said Robert Gilbert, executive chef of catering operations for Walt Disney World. People entering the theater will receive a new concoction: "lion chow" consisting of candy pecans, sea salt-toasted chips, candied ginger, golden raisins and dried cherries, served in a bamboo sleeve. "As the guests are enjoying the show, they won't have the rustling of paper that you would otherwise get with a bag of chips or something like that," Gilbert said. For the outdoor dinner portion that follows the show, expect items such as watermelon goat cheese salad, butter chicken with basmati rice, golden pineapple with toasted coconut and naan bread, which will be grilled on stage. The food will be spread over multiple stations. About three-quarters of the menu items have been served or are being served at Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurants, Gilbert says. "We wanted to stay in character as much as possible in staying true to the event itself.

The Battle To Save The Polynesian Resort Waterfall

Development of FastPass+ delivers freedom as Walt Disney World personalizes vacations with more MyMagic+ planned | Inside the Magic

Rather than pleasing customers with your proposed redesign, you will do nothing but disappoint them. Ive only been to Disney World 3 times since 2008 but my first visit to the Polynesian was on my last trip. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in the door. Its like stepping onto a beautiful island! My 11 year old daughter and I constantly talk about how we would LOVE to be able to stay there one day. For now, we are glad to be able to stay at value resorts and visit the deluxe resorts for meals and exploring. Please do not destroy the beautiful lobby! I grew up in Hawaii so I brought my daughters to the Polynesian so they could get a feeling of my childhood. The first thing we did when we arrived was take several pictures in the lobby. All around the gorgeous waterfall.

Disney Vacation Idea: Take Your Time To Smell The Roses

So you've finally decided to go to Walt Disney World. With a lot to see and do, it's essential to come prepared. Below are some exceptional tips to make your journey one that will be remembered for a life time.

Plan ahead. Decide ahead of time what your concerns are and make a strategy.

Get to the parks early! It's fantastic, specifically in hectic season, the number of of the popular trips you can knock off before half the "World" rises.

Make the effort to rest in the middle of the day. Stay at one of the Magic Kingdom or Epcot resorts, permitting a return in the middle of the day for a nap or dip in the pool.

Call exactly 90 days prior at 7 AM Easter Time (Orlando time) for concern seating if breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom is tops on your youngster's list. The only ways you might get away with oversleeping and reserving a little bit later on for this extremely sought after character breakfast is if you are traveling in incredibly sluggish season.

Come ready for an afternoon shower throughout the rainy summer season months even if the sky looks completely clear in the morning. Rent a locker to store your rain equipment and circle back if skies begin to look threatening. However, if you're caught not really prepared, practically every store in the parks sells rain ponchos. Didn't bring your poncho? You'll be much better off purchasing one at Walmart that inside Disney parks, considering that they are overpriced. On those day and age where every mobile phone has access to weather info, is truly not an excuse not to be ready!

Usage Fastpass, Disney's free, clever timesaving device. It's provided at all 4 theme parks and is a terrific method to save hours of waiting in line. Simply place your park pass in among the devices located at each individual Fastpass destination and get a ticket printed with a designated one-hour window where you might return and go into an unique line with little or no waiting. Nowadays you can do that from your smartphone; simply download Disney's app and you're good to go.

Pre-arrange top priority seating, Disney's response to dining reservations, by calling 407-WDW-DINE. On arrival you'll receive the next table available for your party size, hence conserving hours of aggravation and waiting. Most popular dining establishments at Epcot will be book strong for the day, so make sure you do this early in the morning. Among our favored restaurants are the one at Paris and Morroco.

Allow a lot of time to reach the style parks each morning. It's easy to miss your morning meal concern seating is you don't designate adequate time. You can reserve the Cristal Palace at Magic Kingdom, right of main street on your means in and have lunch with the characters afterwards.

Be spontaneous. If something catches your eye, even if it's not on your day-to-day list of things to do, stop and check out. If not, you could miss something fantastic.

Realize the limitations of your kids. If they're tired, take a break. If their feet harm, get them a stroller (forget that they grew out of one years ago). If a ride terrifies them don't require the issue. Such precautions might make your day and the day of other park visitors a lot less difficult.

Bring pagers, 2-way radios, official site or mobile phone. If your party intend on splitting up, they are an ideal way to communicate. Constantly have a pre-arranged meeting point in case someone gets lost, that knowledge might help keep stress at minimum.

Wear broken-in, comfortable shoes. Much better yet, bring two pairs and rotate them. Nothing is worse than blisters on your very first day then nursing them for the remainder of your vacation. Think about all the time you'll be standing up in lines.

Most importantly, reduce and take pleasure in the magic. Withstand the desire to see everything at breakneck speed. You can not potentially cover all of it, so consider this as your very first journey to Disney, not your last. There will be time to select up all the things you missed on the next go-round.

I attended the first 24-hour party, One More Disney Day , at Disneyland in 2012, and last year's "Monstrous" party at the Walt Disney World . Family obligations are keeping me from the parks this year, but everyone who can't be there in person can follow along online with live video streams from the party. Here's the live feed from the Magic Kingdom: These are really more webcams than true live streams, as they offer only video and no sounds. But it's a pretty nice way to kill time on a Friday! Disneyland is offering four cams, which will capture some of the many entertainment events in the parks tonight. Here are the links: Main Street (Mickey's Soundsational Parade at 6:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and Magical at 9:25 p.m.) Cars Land (Sunset and street lighting at approximately 7:40 p.m.) Rivers of America (Fantasmic!

While I would welcome that change, this ride remains, to me, a representation of all that is right with Disney parks. It has the right amount of thrills without being too scary for the meek among us. It's not jarring, as some of the coasters are, for the frailer guests. Moreover, it continues to deliver a wonderful combination of gorgeous scenery while simulating flightone of my favorite things. Because of that very fact, I am completely transfixed every time I head over to Star Tours and this show is going on. My kid's have never even participated, but the sight of those Stormtroopers in the flesh (so to speak) always stops me in my tracks. It's my childhood dream realized right there in front of meand isn't that what Walt Disney World is all about? 4 Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage in the Theater of the Stars. Photo by J. Jeff Kober. The story goes that in 1992, during an event at New York's famed Waldorf Astoria billed as "Beauty and the Beast the Magic of the Music," Jerry Orbach, the voice of Lumiere, and Paige O'Hara, the voice of Belle, performed several songs from the film with cast members from the recently launched Disney MGM Studios live show. After seeing the amazing audience reaction, Jerry supposedly turned to then Disney CEO Michael Eisner and said something to the extent of, "You guys should consider bringing this to the Broadway stage." I hope it's true that we have that casual moment to thank for Beauty's amazing home page Broadway run. It's the only Broadway show that I actually saw twice and after more than 20 years it's a still a wonder to behold at the Theater of the Stars in Disney's Hollywood Studios.

This year, some of the announced stars will include notable alumni from the original trilogy, who are also about to return to those iconic roles in Episode VII, including Peter Mayhew and, for the first time at Star Wars Weekends, Mark Hamill . When it came to these appearances, Hoffert said, Its incredible for us. It's perfect timing too that they've announced all of the great new actors and returning actors for Episode VII. A lot of those are going to be at Star Wars Weekends this year too. It's just a great bridge for us as we think about getting into when the movie launches in December of next year and when you think about the content we're able to bring to life for our guests. The amount of actors that we've got and the celebrity appearances we're going to have this year are phenomenal. When I asked Hoffert about guests doing their best to glean any information they can from Hamill and Mayhew about Episode VII, she replied, Oh, I'm sure! Definitely. Mark Hamill will be doing his own talk show in the Premiere Theater, so that'll be a great experience for our guests.

Another tip: You can use the system, pre-programming your experiences and downloading the app even if you buy tickets elsewhere in advance, like from undercovertourist.com, which offers significant discounts and in some cases, a free day's admission. The one caveat: Before you can wave your MagicBand around, you've got to figure out how the system works. (It has been years in the making and outsiders suggest cost an estimated $1 billion dollars.) No date has yet been announced for the program to be introduced at Disney's California parks, but it will be, Staggs said. If you're heading to Walt Disney World, the first thing you need to do -- once you've booked hotels and bought your park tickets -- is set up a www.mydisneyexperience.com account and link everyone who is traveling with you so that you can book experiences and rides together and share photos. (Book the MemoryMaker package for $149 before your arrival and everyone in your travel group gets access to all of the photos taken by Disney photographers, as well as action shots on the attractions.) If you are an annual pass holder or staying at a Disney resort, including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin just outside Epcot, you can start pre-booking rides and "experiences" 60 days in advance. You'll get your personalized MagicBands free in the mail. If you are staying off-property, as long as you've booked your tickets, you can start scheduling experiences 30 days out. You can purchase MagicBands for $12.95, but your ticket also work at all of the touch-points.

Disney World Offers 'Magic Band' for Every Family Member - NY1

Louis. The MagicBands de-stress the experience for kids, too, said 12-year-old Ethan Morrison, here with his family from Toronto. He's not worried about his parents getting angry if he loses his room key or paper FastPass, he explained. His older brother Gavin, 14, added, "It saves a lot of time you spent waiting on line." That's a big part of the idea, Disney executives said. Not only can you personalize your family's experience, but you'll have time to do things you wouldn't have otherwise, said Gary Daniels, who has been helping to shepherd the MyMagic-plus team for the past six years. Your mobile app's interactive map can tell you waiting times for attractions near where you are, where the characters are and where to eat -- after you peruse the menus and make a reservation, if you like. Of course, you're bound to forget something -- like that all-important visit with Cinderella, ruefully said Michael Chandler, here from South Carolina with his wife Heather and 3-year-old daughter Lillie.
